Prices
How much do plants cost in the UAE?
It depends on the plant, its size and its age. Herbs, small succulents and starter plants start at around AED 20. Fruit plants, flowering shrubs and larger indoor plants usually run from about AED 50 to a few hundred dirhams. Mature trees can cost more than AED 1,000. Every product page shows the live price for each size.
How much do seeds, fertiliser and potting soil cost?
Vegetable and flower seed packets start from a few dirhams. Potting soil, fertiliser and soil improvers are priced by weight or volume. Check the product page for the current price of each pack size.
Why do two plants of the same name have different prices?
Size (height in cm), pot size, age and how long the plant took to grow all affect price. A 30 cm plant and a 150 cm plant of the same variety are very different products.
Identifying plants
What plant is this? How do I identify an unknown plant or tree?
Photograph the whole plant, a close-up of the leaves (front and back), any flowers or fruit, and the bark. Then use a plant ID app such as Google Lens, Pl@ntNet or iNaturalist and compare the result with a reliable source. Note leaf arrangement, flower colour and any milky sap, because these narrow it down quickly. Never taste an unknown plant: some common garden plants, such as oleander, are toxic.
What is the "don't touch me" plant?
It is Mimosa pudica, also called touch-me-not or sensitive plant. Its leaflets fold shut when touched and reopen after a few minutes. You can buy Touch Me Not (Mimosa pudica) from us.
What is the name of this flower or tree if I only have a photo?
Send the photos to us through the Contact page. Clear daylight photos of leaves, flowers and the overall shape give the best chance of a quick answer.
Growing in the UAE climate
Can I really grow food in the desert?
Yes. The main growing season is roughly October to April, when most vegetables and herbs do well outdoors. In summer, stick to heat-tolerant crops such as okra, brinjal, chilli, moringa and curry leaf, use shade cloth and water early in the morning. Improve sandy soil with compost and mulch to hold moisture.
How do I keep plants alive in the Dubai summer?
Give plants afternoon shade, water deeply early in the morning rather than little and often, mulch the soil and choose heat-tolerant varieties. Move delicate potted plants out of direct afternoon sun.
How deep should mulch be, and when should I apply it?
About 5 to 7 cm of organic mulch around plants, kept a few centimetres away from stems and trunks. Apply it after planting and again in early spring, before the summer heat arrives.
How often should I water my plants?
There is no single schedule. Check the soil with a finger: if the top 2 to 3 cm is dry, most plants need water. Potted plants and young plants dry out faster in UAE heat than established garden plants.
When should I plant pumpkin, mint or moringa in the UAE?
Pumpkin does best when sown in the cooler months, from about October to February. Mint grows well through the cool season and appreciates shade in summer. Moringa is a heat-lover and can be planted most of the year once temperatures are above about 20 degrees C. Our pumpkin seeds are available online.
Soil, fertiliser and garden supplies
Where can I buy fertiliser, urea or Epsom salt in Dubai?
We sell urea fertiliser, Epsom salt, magnesium sulphate and vermicompost. Browse more in our plant food collection.
What is Epsom salt and is it good for plants?
Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate. It helps plants that are short of magnesium (yellowing between the veins of older leaves) but it is not a general fertiliser, so use it only when it is needed.
Where can I buy potting soil in the UAE?
We stock Holland Torf potting soil, a peat-based growing medium suited to pots and containers.
Where can I buy garden gravel or stones in Dubai?
We carry decorative garden stones and gravel, for example grey gravel stone. Check the product page for the available sizes and colours.
