Herbs in Dubai & UAE

Bring kitchen-fresh fragrance and flavour into your home with the UAE's largest selection of culinary and medicinal herb plants. From classic Mediterranean herbs like basil, rosemary, and thyme to Middle Eastern favourites like mint, coriander, and parsley, every herb in this collection is grown locally and ready to plant in your Dubai kitchen, Sharjah balcony, or Abu Dhabi villa garden.

Why Grow Herbs in the UAE

Fresh herbs transform UAE home cooking — a sprig of mint for karak chai, basil for Italian pasta, coriander for Lebanese tabbouleh, rosemary for grilled lamb. Buying cut herbs from supermarkets means flavour fades within days; growing your own means harvesting moments before cooking. Herbs are also among the easiest plants to grow in the UAE, with most thriving in pots on sunny windowsills, balcony rails, or partially shaded patios.

Top Herbs for UAE Homes

  • Basil: Sweet basil for Italian dishes, Thai basil for Asian cooking
  • Mint: Spearmint and peppermint, essential for tea and mojitos
  • Coriander (Cilantro): Cool-season favourite for Middle Eastern cuisine
  • Parsley: Flat-leaf Italian and curly varieties
  • Rosemary: Drought-tolerant Mediterranean classic
  • Thyme & Oregano: Hardy ground-covering culinary staples
  • Lemongrass: Tall ornamental, perfect for Thai and Vietnamese cooking
  • Sage: Silvery leaves, traditional roast pairings
  • Curry Leaves: Essential for South Indian tempering
  • Holy Basil (Tulsi): Sacred herb with wellness benefits

Herb Care in the UAE

Light & Position

Most herbs need 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Place pots on south or east-facing balconies, kitchen windowsills with morning light, or in protected outdoor spots. Avoid harsh midday summer sun (May-September) — use shade cloth or move pots to morning-sun positions.

Watering & Soil

Use well-draining potting mix with added perlite. Water when top 2 cm of soil is dry — typically every 2 days in summer, every 4-5 days in winter. Mediterranean herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage) prefer slightly dry conditions; tropical herbs (basil, mint, coriander) like consistent moisture. All herbs hate waterlogged roots.

Harvesting & Pruning

Pinch tops regularly to encourage bushy growth. Harvest in the morning when essential oils are strongest. For basil, never let it flower — pinch flower buds immediately. Mint spreads aggressively; grow in dedicated pots only.
