Growing a Curry Leaf Plant at Home in the UAE

A kitchen essential you can grow

Curry leaves lose their aroma quickly after picking, so growing your own plant means the freshest flavour for dals, curries and tempering. The plant is hardy and adapts well to UAE conditions with a little care.

Where to grow it

Give it bright light with some protection from the harshest afternoon sun. It grows well in a large pot on a balcony or directly in the garden.

Soil and watering

Use a loose, well-draining mix. Water regularly but let the top layer dry slightly between waterings. Good drainage matters, as waterlogged roots cause problems quickly.

Feeding and harvesting

Feed lightly through the growing season with an organic fertilizer such as Bio Organic Fertilizer. Once the plant has several branches, pick leaves from the tips regularly, which encourages new growth.

Buy a plant

Souq Garden offers Curry Leaves plants in several sizes, delivered across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.
